The motor vehicle industry was looking good in the US at the beginning of the year until the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The economic strain of this pandemic on the manufacturers, distributors, and consumers of automobile products is immense.
Although the COVID-19 epidemic has destabilized the automobile industry, here are the top-selling vehicles through the first quarter of 2020 in the USA.
1. Ford F-Series
Ford Motor Company’s products have remained dominant in the US market for more than four decades. For two years in a row, Ford F-Series pickup trucks have remained on top as best-selling vehicles in the US. However, the automobile market has witnessed a 13% decline in the sales of Ford F-series trucks in the first quarter of 2020 when compared with 2019.
The first quarter of 2020 saw sales of 186, 562 Ford F-Series trucks, down from 214,611 in the same period in 2019. Ford sold 896526 F-series trucks in 2019, making Ford continue showing its strength in the US automobile industry.
The market share of Ford F-series in the US was 5.2% in 2018, up from 4% in 2016. Other than the US market, Ford vehicles are also doing well in the world market. Ford F-series trucks are the Second best selling vehicles in the world.
2. Chevrolet Silverado
One of the most recognizable Pickup trucks in the US market in 2020 is the General Motors Company’s Chevrolet Silverado light-and heavy-duty trucks. The 1918 inaugural models of Chevrolet pickup trucks had no bed. Gratefully, the latest Chevrolet Silverado has all that you need in a standard Pickup.
GMC sold 143 696 Chevrolet Silverado trucks in the first quarter of 2020, making them the second best selling vehicles in the US in 2020. The total number of Chevrolet Silverado trucks sold in 2019 was 578,600.
3. Ram Pickup
The performance of Ram pickups in the US market for the past few years is impressive. A dramatic improvement in the design, technology, and performance gave Ram trucks a competitive edge in the 2020 vehicle rankings. Ram pickups are one of the few models that recorded a growth in their sales during the first quarter of this year, selling 128,805 units.
The market performance of Ram in 2019 did not disappoint. The 633,694 units sold last year earned Ram Pickups the second position. However, Chevrolet Silverado seems to give Ram a good run for its money this year.
4. Toyota RAV4
Toyota RAV4 has continued to captivate the interests of car enthusiasts in the US for many years. Although many car brands recorded a decline in sales, RAV4 surprised many by registering a whopping 17% growth in sales for the first quarter of 2020. The 1stthree months of this year saw sales of 97,631 units of Toyota RAV4. Perhaps the American consumer’s preference for Toyota RAV4s has something to do with the fuel efficiency and affordability of these vehicles.
The number of units of Toyota RAV4 sold in 2019 was 448,071, which represented a 4.9% increase in sales in comparison to the 2018 turnover.
5. Toyota Camry
Toyota Camry doesn’t seem ready to surrender its top-selling Passenger car reputation soon. The first three months of 2020 saw sales of 77,188 units of Toyota Camry, making it complete the list of 5 top-selling vehicles of 2020.
However, Camry recorded a 6% sales decline through the first quarter of the year. Nevertheless, this decline was better than what its rivals experienced. For instance, there was a 17% and 18% decline in units sold by archrivals Chevrolet Equinox and Honda CR-V, respectively. The total Toyota Camry units sold in 2019 were 336,978, which is still impressive.
